1. Get Your Senior Discount When Eating Out

Not every restaurant offers senior discounts. But here are some of the better ones we've found (note: some of these are subject to individual restaurant participation.)

Burger King: 10% senior discount. Plus occasional drink specials.

McDonalds: Discounts on coffee and drinks.

Wendy's: A free drink (some locations offer a 10% discount)

White Castle: 10% off for 55 and over.

Sonic: 10% discount.

Subway: 10% discount.

Applebees: 10% senior discount.

IHOP: Special senior menu, with a 10% discount.

Denny's: Special senior menu with discounted prices.

Golden Corral: ages 60 and over get a discount.

Outback Steakhouse: 10% off for AARP members (so get that AARP card!)

Walmart: does not offer ongoing senior discounts, but they frequently offer a lot of promotions on their website.

Amazon: Medicaid cardholders can get an Amazon Prime membership at a rate of $5.99 a month, as opposed to the full price of $12.99 per month.

2. Are you paying too much for life insurance?

Or do you not even have life insurance, but are now worried about your family's future?

Either way, you should head on over to AIG. AIG offers $250,000 of Term Life Insurance Coverage for as low as $14 a month!. That's an unheard rate.

So if life insurance is on your mind, check out AIG.

3. Eliminate Unused Subscriptions

So many people sign up for multiple streaming services or other similar entertainment that’s billed on a monthly basis. And they say things like “it’s only $4.99 a month – no big deal”. Well, those “$4.99’s” add up, especially if you barely use the service anymore. Or your “free trial” ran out, and you started getting charged without knowing it.

Pro tip: scour your credit card bill thoroughly and note all the “monthly” charges. See what you can live without.

4. Will You Quit Smoking Already

Smoking a pack a day costs about $70 a week. That’s $3,600+ a year.

Oh, you only smoke a little. Not that we don’t believe you, but even seven cigarettes a day is roughly $1,200 a year. Could you use another $1200 every year? We’re guessing yes.

Plus, you’ll be healthier. It’s a total win/win. Quit smoking.

5. Are You Paying for the Gym but Not Going? Then Cancel. Now.

The gym has a little secret – they know a certain percentage of their customers don’t go, but won’t cancel for fear of felling like a failure. We’re here to tell you you’re not a failure – if you aren’t using your gym membership, CANCEL IT. Then use the money you save to buy a treadmill. Because at least if you don’t use that, you have a place to hang your wet clothes.

6. Get Grilling!

Instead of going out to eat, buy some steaks and grill them up. Not only is it more fun, you’ll save a ton of money. One couple I know saves about $50 a week when they started turning their “out to eat once a week” into a “once a week grillfest”.

7. Refi Your Mortgage

Look, interest rates are at historic lows. If you own a home, it’s time to look at refinancing your mortgage. In fact, we insist – there is no reason to pay whatever rate you are paying now when a simple refi can lower your payment, and even put money in your pocket today.

Check out the refi options available to you and get to it.

8. Veterans and Their Spouses Get a Nice Discount at Lowes.

Lowes salutes you! All active military and veterans (as well as their spouses) get an instant 10% discount on all in-store purchases at Lowe's.

This should make your shopping choice easy if you are looking for tools, appliances, or anything else Lowes sells.

9. Save 25% on Your Homeowners Insurance

Truth be told, if you are a homeowner, you’ve probably had your same homeowner’s insurance since the day you closed on your house. It’s just not something we check. But you should, because homeowner’s insurance has evolved (for example, HOA discounts, discounts for having fire extinguishers, etc.)

Comparisons.org Home Insurance, is a company that specializes in homeowner’s insurance, and can save you, on average, 25% on your homeowner’s policy. That’s a lot of money, and it costs you nothing to check and see if you can save. In fact, it takes 60 seconds to get a free quote. Check it out today!

10. Stop Using a Debit Card That Doesn’t Make You Money

If you’re not using the Aspiration debit card, you are missing out on extra cash in your pocket.

The Aspiration debit card gives you up to 10% back every time you use it. Use it on all the things you normally buy, like groceries and drug store purchases, and get free money. Watch your bank account grow just by doing your regular shopping!

And you can rest assured knowing that unlike the Big Banks, your deposits will never fund fossil fuel industries that hurt our planet.

11. It's Auto Insurance Checkup Time!

The number of people who overpay on their car insurance is staggering.

That’s because your insurance company will not let you know if you qualify for discounts (like no tickets and/or DWI’s in 3 years, having automatic headlights, or driving less than 20 miles a day, to name a few). Even your zip code could get you a sweet discount.

Comparing your car insurance online is easy, and switching if you find a lower rate is even easier (bonus: by law, your old company will refund our unused premium.)
